It all started when I was looking out my window seat, Middle East-bound, fretting if I was really going through with this.

I once took a big, stupid leap of faith and flew straight to Al Jazeera English in Qatar on the off chance that they’d hire me for an unpaid internship.

By some insane stroke of luck, I met someone who knew an editor there.

A few days later, I was living my dream.

My name is Joe Sabroski, and at the time of writing I am a 20-year survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

I know that life’s too short to not go after what you want.

That’s why I’m on a mission to make this one count.

So I travel. I write. Sometimes, I make art in the hopes that other people feel even an ounce of what I felt in those moments.

And I’d be lying if I said I’m not motivated to satisfy my thirst for adventure and endlessly changing horizons.

I guess it’s just the way I’m wired.

But if the mere fact of my survival inspires other cancer patients, then I’m looking to do more in this world in the hopes that I can help them.

I’m not sure where that mission will take me.

But I’m certain of one thing. I have been called to serve a greater purpose.
